String Teaching
Finding the right teacher is very important. It is vital that string players are given sound technical foundations from the very beginning. It is also important to take into consideration a teacher's particular method and personality, and it is wise to have consultation lessons before deciding which teacher is right for you, or your child. Different people need different teachers at different stages, and what is a perfect approach for one person may be totally unsuitable for another.
At Stringers we have a list of teachers in the Edinburgh area. For teachers in Scotland outwith the Edinburgh area, contact:
Pat Field from ESTA (European String Teachers' Association), email: pat.field@ntlworld.com.
The Membership secretary of ESTA is Derek Pedder, email: dpedder@compuserve.com who may be able to provide names of teachers in other areas of the UK.
Orchestras and Ensembles
Stringers is actively involved in the Edinburgh Children's Orchestra and the Junior Academy of Music (Edinburgh). This is a Saturday Music School for children aged 6 to 18, specialising in string teaching, string orchestras and chamber music supported by theory, aural and musicianship classes.
